This workshop is part of the cpd25 Aspects programme, aimed at library staff looking to acquire additional skills and knowledge or staff working towards Chartership.

This session is focussed on leadership and what it means for you and your career. We will join Christopher Cipkin as he takes us through his own leadership journey so far, and we will explore how leadership is something relevant to all not just those with the title of “director”. This session will provide an opportunity for attendees to reflect on their own leadership journeys, wherever they are in their career. If you have ambitions to move into leadership in your career, or if you are just interested in reflecting on your career so far and applying the lessons of leadership in your professional development, then this is the session for you. We particularly want to welcome people who are currently under-represented in library leadership.

Speaker biography:

Christopher Cipkin joined Royal Holloway, University of London, in 2019 as Director of Library, Learning Support, and Culture. He is responsible for strategic leadership of a team of over forty staff who provide a broad range of education and research services within the College’s Student and Academic Services directorate. Prior to working at Royal Holloway, Christopher’s career focussed particularly on developing services around information and digital literacy, academic liaison, and research support, with a broad base of experience gained through previous posts at the Universities of Birmingham and Reading. He maintains a strong interest in staff development and workforce diversity, and is currently a member of SCONUL’s Organisational Development Strategy Group and a professional registration mentor for CILIP. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an Associate of the Royal College of Organists. Previous professional involvement has included roles with RLUK’s Associate Director’s Network, CILIP’s Academic and Research Libraries Group, and IAML UK and Ireland.
