Hard Shoulder to Fast Lane: Making the Most of the Mayhem

As the title suggests, this year we will be looking at making the most of our library and information services in the current financial climate – focusing on three areas of activity:

  • collaboration
  • collections
  • developing staff

Professor Malcolm Gillies, Vice-Chancellor of London Metropolitan University, and Chair of London Higher, will give a keynote address and set the external context. Then, on the importance (and challenges) of collaboration, we will be hearing from Deborah Shorley, Head of UKRR and Director of Library Services, Imperial College London; Fiona Parsons, Chair of SCONUL and Director of Learning and Information Services, University of Wolverhampton; Alison Mackenzie, Chair of North West Academic Libraries (NOWAL) and Dean of Learning Services, Edge Hill University; and Nicola Siminson, NOWAL Operations Officer.

In the afternoon, Dr Giles Mandelbrote, Librarian and Archivist at Lambeth Palace Library, and Dr Jacqueline Cooke, Deputy Librarian at Goldsmiths, University of London, will introduce us to the important and unique special collections at their institutions. We will then take a
