Nick Bevan new appointment at Middlesex

On October 12th, I joined Middlesex University as Director of Learning Resources and University Librarian, following in the footsteps of William Marsterton who retired in July. I was previously Director of Library Services at Brunel University, a post I had held for just over seven years. Moving from an 'old' university, albeit a relatively new-ish old university, to a 'new' university, albeit a well-established new university, presents immediate challenges, notably the fact that budgets are smaller and big decisions are made much more quickly. I am also getting used to a larger team which includes student IT support, language and learning support, shared hospital library facilities and a small but perfectly formed museum (Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture). My immediate challenges include planning for the closure of the Cat Hill campus LRC and integrating the staff and collections in the main Sheppart Library at Hendon. As I write, I am still in the honeymoon period of a new job which means that I'm working long hours but everyone is very nice to me. I'm assuming that at least one of these states will continue for some while.
