Improvements to LSE Library

Building work will be taking place at LSE Library over summer 2007 to maximise the use of space in the library building. Key features of the project include:

  • Expansion of the Course Collection (short loans for teaching) on the Ground Floor by 60% and addition of study spaces within the Course Collection area
  • Addition of 150-160 study spaces spread across the Library
  • Creation of a new photocopying area on the Lower Ground Floor
  • Creation of a joint Library/IT Services Help Desk on the First Floor
  • Additional toilets on the First Floor
  • Creation of a Ground Floor self-service area for issue and return of the Main Collection books
  • Reduction in size of the Ground Floor quiet study area and creation of a new screened-off study area on the First Floor
  • Strategic relocation of the same number of group study rooms, including two for students with disabilities (to remain on the Ground Floor)

Building work will take place between late June and late September. Library services (and opening hours) will be maintained throughout. Full details of changes to services will be posted on the Library website at
