UK Research Reserve (UKRR) Update: For M25 Consortium newsletter Spring 2010

Membership for Phase 2 of UKRR closed at the end of 2009, with twenty nine Higher Education libraries signing up to participate in the coordinated de-duplication of their print journal collections. A full list of UKRR members is available from the UKRR website (www. ukrr.ac.uk), and many M25 Consortium members are included.

During the first de-duplication cycle of Phase 2 which ran from June – November 2009, UKRR was offered 11,500 metres of material consisting of over 9,500 titles from eleven members. The processing of this material has now been completed and work is well underway on the subsequent cycle which began in December 2009.

A workshop aimed at representatives of the members was held in late February, with thirty one delegates from seventeen institutions attending to learn about the UKRR process, as well as how to take advantage of the document supply benefits provided by the British Library which is a project partner. The presentations are available to members in a restricted area of the website, which is being further developed to provide access to resources relating to the governance and management of UKRR.

UKRR is also investigating the possible development of a customised IT system, which will streamline the flow of data between member institutions, UKRR and the British Library.

At the beginning of the second year of activity it’s full speed ahead for UKRR and its membership, as we approach the third cycle of activity which promises to be the busiest yet.
