Library awareness campaign - Your Library Loves You

In March 2011 Royal Holloway Library Services and Students’ Union teamed up to find out what students think about the College libraries and raise awareness of resources and services on offer. The week of activities included a “Suggestions Day”, during which students were encouraged to comment on library services and suggest books and other resources to be added to the library collection. On the “Senate House Library Day” students were introduced to the University of London’s Senate House Library, its collections, study facilities and services. The final day of the awareness week focused on “Library and Study Skills”. Academic support staff joined librarians in promoting the library and academic skills support available to students. Feedback from staff and students indicates that the events were well-received and we hope to repeat the awareness week early in the next academic year. During the week 230 suggestions forms were completed and 319 suggestions made.

 
Library fines donated to charity - £4,525 raised for the Royal Holloway Rainforest Project.

9 March was ‘Give Your Library Fines to Charity Day’, when all library fines paid were donated to the Royal Holloway Rainforest Project. Thanks to the fantastic response from library users we were able to add £4,525.30 to the funds already raised. The aim of the Project is to purchase an area of Ecuadorian rainforest equivalent to the size of Royal Holloway's campus - 135 acres. The sum raised will purchase roughly 90 acres, which, added to funds already raised, means that the Project will secure an area totalling about 165 acres - far in excess of the original aspiration.

Library - Easter and Bank Holiday Opening Hours  

Royal Holloway libraries will continue their term-time opening hours throughout the Easter Vacation. For the first time ever the libraries will be also open during the traditional College Easter closure dates, from the Wednesday before Easter until Easter Monday. Over the Easter weekend, we are providing the same opening hours that apply during term-time.

Bedford and Founder’s Libraries will also open their doors on the public holidays on 29 April and 2 May. Bedford Library will be open 24/7 and Founder’s Library will be open from 8.30am to 1am. Please note: All libraries are closed on the bank holiday Monday 30 May 2011.

Staffing news 

Adele Allen has joined Royal Holloway Library Services as Archives Assistant to work on accessioning the Roy Waters theatre collection, an extensive and diverse theatre collection received as a bequest from the estate of Roy Waters.
