Over the past year, we have been busy looking at various Resource Discovery Tools and after a careful assessment we chose Primo. In the first instance we have configured Primo to bring together 4 of our internal systems. Our new "Library Search" now includes records from Unicorn (soon to be Symphony), SFX our link resolver, Metalib the federated search tool and finally records from DSpace, which holds the full text of our open access materials. We also implemented Primo Central and have been impressed by its currency, coverage and speed in retrieving records. 10 Metalib quicksets are also available in Primo. It is available to our users via a simple search box on the Library home page. http://www.imperial.ac.uk/library As users of the Unicorn management system we have recently adopted 'demand management' as part of our circulation processes. In brief, this allows students to reserve items at title level, allowing us to call on 'on-shelf' items at other Imperial library locations to fulfil requests. We had a soft launch at the end of last term, it will be interesting to see how reservation usage changes in the new term. And finally, by the start of term we hope to have launched online room bookings for our group study rooms (at Central Library) as well as course bookings for our teaching courses across the library service. We're using connect2 from Lorensbergs and are currently in the set-up phase. |
