Borrow a book – 24/7
We are in the process of installing self-issue kiosks on two floors of the Library. The Taunton Centre Library is open 24/7 and this will greatly improve our service, particularly to part- time and evening course participants. It is hoped that the issue system will go live by 19th July. Following on from this project we are hoping to add some form of cashless payment in 2013.

Conference report
Tim attended the quinquennial joint conference of the North American, European and Asia Pacific business school library director groups at Stanford University in April where he gave a presentation on his first 12 months at the School. As well as gaining ideas for lecture and library spaces from visits to the Bass Center Library at Stanford and the Thomas J. Long Library at Hass, he also identified common emerging themes around research data support and consolidation (of space and services). Different philosophies and cultural norms were evident in US business school library attitudes to staffing, self-service and support.

Digitising historic annual reports

We are currently in negotiation with two commercial information companies to digitise our printed annual reports collection stored in the basement of the Taunton Centre. We would be looking to secure equivalent access to a global online reports archival collection as part of any deal. We are also discussing with the British Library if they would be interested in taking over the storage of the UK company reports in this collection in future. This project would release much needed high-density storage space.

Journals under review
The Library is undertaking a comprehensive review of our journals collection. We are analysing usage statistics in order to inform our decisions to amend our holdings, particularly of print issues that take up increasingly valuable shelf space.

More building works
We are preparing for a busy summer of improvement works in the Taunton Centre with the Careers team moving into new offices on the top floors of the building.
