'I have been at the University of Kent since February 2003. My initial
appointment was to the post of Projects & Planning Manager and I
became Head of Library Services in November 2005. The Library is part
of Information Services, which also includes Computing Services and
Administrative Computing (MISD). The Library Service consists of the
Templeman Library (Canterbury), joint partnership service, with the
University of Greenwich, at the Drill Hall Library (Universities at
Medway) and a small site library at Tonbridge.
'My career has spanned working in the public library sector for 14yrs,
starting as a shelver whilst still at school, before moving into the
academic library sector in 1988. I am particularly interested in the
application and development of new technologies in libraries (the
systems librarian side of me emerging!), a keen supporter of continuing
staff development for library staff (want to encourage more staff to
progress/reach their potential), and collaborative working
within/between public and academic libraries (leisure/learning
environment complimentary mix). Until recently I was a member of the
M25 Disability and Special Needs working group and I am currently chair
of the CPD25 Operations Task Group. A challenge for the future is to
try and visit all the member libraries of M25 at some point - 15 still
to go.' Carole Pickaver University of Ken |
