Collaboration and Partnership Working Group - Meeting Minutes

Minutes of the Meeting held at Senate House Library, University of London

2. Minutes of the meeting held 24 October 2006

These were accepted as a true record, subject to the following correction:

Under item 6, ALCL, “Working Group members noted AS’s report, especially on the request from local schools and colleges for Westminster Public Libraries to consider purchasing material from reading lists.”

3. Matters arising

There were no matters arising.

4. London Higher Projects

Fact-sheet

MD reported that the collaborative fact-sheet, Libraries in Higher Education Institutions in London (http://www.londonghigher.ac.uk/docs/Libraries_Keyfacts06.pdf) had just been published.  It was intended to update the fact-sheet regularly, with the inclusion of new examples and data from the annual SCONUL statistics-gathering exercise.  She thanked all colleagues for their contributions.

Research Excellence Project

MD invited AC to brief Working Group members on this agenda item.  AC reported that initial work had commenced on this complementary project.  MD, AC and CW would meet with London Higher representatives on 17 January 2007 to discuss the M25 Consortium contribution in more detail.

5. London Olympics 2012

CW presented her paper, MLA London 2012 Round Table meeting, 31 August 2006: report on discussion and recommendations for the M25 Consortium of Academic Libraries.  It was agreed that, with updates to reflect more recent developments, this paper would be brought to the attention of the M25 Consortium Steering Group.

6. Action Plan – reports from Working Group members

  • ALCL
    AS reported that she had been unable to attend the last meeting but that she had sent recent information on CPD 25 and also details of the newly-published fact-sheet, Libraries in Higher Education Institutions in London.

  • The British Library
    There were no new matters to report.

  • Committee of Departmental Librarians
    There were no new matters to report.

  • HE / FE liaison
    There were no new matters to report.

  • Library access programmes
    HC would report in due course on the outcomes of the next SCONUL Access Working Group meeting.

  • LLDA
    MD indicated that in the light of the recent M25 Steering Group review of working groups Working Group members would consider future areas of mutual interest.

  • Regional NHS libraries
    MD reported that she would invite Richard Osborne to speak at the next Working Group meeting on the changes to the regional structure of NHS libraries.

  • Regional library consortia
    There were no new matters to report.

  • Research Information Network
    BM drew Working Group members’ attention to the recent report of the RIN Advisory Board meeting on 25 October 2006 and the AwayDay on 23/24 November 2006, which had been made available by Jean Sykes, Librarian and Director of IT Services at the LSE.

Membership of the M25 Consortium
BM had identified members of London Higher not currently in membership of the M25 Consortium.  These were: Central School of Speech and Drama; Guildhall School of Music and Drama; Institute of Cancer Research; Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication; Rose Bruford College; Royal Academy of Music; Royal College of Music; Trinity College of Music.  Working Group members agreed that these institutions eligible for membership of the M25 Consortium should be drawn to the attention of the M25 Steering Group and approaches made to consider membership.  In addition, the M25 Steering Group would also be invited to consider an invitation to the Conservatoire of Dance and Drama.

CW reported that an application for extension funding for AIM25 (www.AIM25.ac.uk) had been considered at the M25 Steering Group meeting held 5 December 2006.
